What happened was that once crops got domesticated, people started to cluster in riverine environments where all wealth was derived from labor. There was nothing but labor that made a kingdom wealthy and powerful. Kings everywhere tried to grow their populations by growing more food, intensifying agriculture in order to maximize population density. No one thought this was even an issue until the 1970s |
