Absolutely, assuming it’s a legal weapon. Even on shabbos. In shuls in red states, a ton of people are armed

The Shabbos thing is a racket. It's like driving to Shul because who knows if a lifesaving emergency may require the use of a vehicle.

Huh? At most shuls outside of MFH, many people drive to shul on friday before shabbos and park overnight. They would be able to drive if there’s some emergency in shul.

The point is you can't just break Shabbat because of some unknown hypothetical risk. If there were some predetermined quota and list of people designated to carry, I'd maybe buy it. As it is it's just the people who like guns and designate themselves as responsible to protect people's "lives" so they can carry on Shabbat.

that's a fringe opinion. OU is the gold standard:

In an eruv – guns are not muktze, according to the majority of the authorities.

Yeah these are the same people who say you can't make ramen on Shabbat because it's "makeh bepatish." Anyone with an ounce of integrity understands that a gun is a weapon and that weapons are muktzah except where necessary for pikuach nefesh. The issue here is that it's fake pikuach nefesh.

they still live in walking distance.

they drive to shul friday right before shabbos, park overnight, walk home friday night, walk to/from shul sat morning, walk back sat night for evening prayers, and then drive home.

people who do this are some combo: 1) fat / lazy, 2) have longer walks, 3) running late friday afternoon, 4) shitty weather, 5) bringing stuff to shul friday afternoon like food

ofs. international lawyers can file habeas corpus writs -- the literal translation of habeas corpus is "you have the body," and the talmud talks about this being a matter of life or death. rabbi akiva coins the term majesty of the law. malchut d'mishpat.
