Funny how lawyers are always on the cusp of actual knowledge about a subject

you even see it here, poasters are generally smart and know enough about many topics but it's just lol how dumb you all sound about a topic to someone who knows it in any real depth. you're always scratching the surface enough to be annoying and/or dangerous, but can never make any actual contributions to the discipline. however, to their credit, they're good at deflecting or distracting when called out
it's marvelous, you see it everywhere lawyers gather.

i've posted about this topic before.
people here have a really tough time just saying "i don't know". They'll know 1 piece of information about most subjects and then confidently discuss it in depth as if an entire body of knowledge can be extracted from it.

"there's little innovation or interest, it's glorified clerk work and yet everyone had massive egos like they were on the same level as people doing actual important humanity advancing work."
truer words have never been spoken.
i too will concede when i don't know something or if someone has convinced me that a belief i held was wrong.

now do the media reporters.
ever read an article about something you know a lot about by a business reporter or a legal reporter? they know very little but think they're MFEs and they sound like total idiots if you're actually a MFE.

“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”
