Coming out of the pandemic with this astroturfed GC slop that appeals to MC/UMC normies. It’s the epitome of the broad, “lazy” neoliberal (“lazy” because it doesn’t have the rigor to be an intellectually driven process like postwar neoliberalism was, it’s just live tuna wink$ on cruise control).

It was an attempt at this return to normalcy and a decrease of tensions after 4 years of TDS and then the pandemic and the associated National Monologue on Race, all with the vapid smiling face of a doddering president or your hyper-normie coworkers.

Lots of office and mixed use developments that went into the hopper in 2021 or so are going to have these pickleball courts nobody uses; it’s going to be a relic in 30 years like fallout shelters in libraries and government buildings.

Exactly. Also being able to really play tennis well is a pretty rare trait. The point of pickle ball is that it’s somewhat more fun and more exercise than ping pong, but it’s very accessible and functions like an outdoor parlor game. The schtick of hating on it always seemed so dumb to me (and not coincidentally led by Gen X and elder millennials who resent it because it forces them to confront their ages and the fact that they can’t really play tennis anymore), but it was easy to hate because it was so boomer coded and boomers deserve all the hate they get and 100x more.

In the 70s, many used to play tennis as a casual sport. Times have changed. We’re more faggot.

I have never played it and have no ill feelings towards it as such; I more meant the discourse and cultural apparatus that sprang up around it

Hating pickleball per se just demonstrates midwit contrarianism and an inability to recognize when one is engaging with a dialectic.

I’m just diagnosing.

"Why don't you think pickle ball has staying power?" I asked after flinging an axe at a vestigial wooden stump target, reaching for my half-finished 2nd IPA
