The wave existence is the literal God of the xenogears universe. It is what birthed the entire universe, it is existence itself, it's higher dimension is what controls all of time and space. Deus is nothing more than a man made super weapon. There are also many religions, and the only one cast in a negative manner by the game is the ethos. The game treats religions in general as a very positive thing, with the ethos being a lesson in being careful of following whatever you are shoveled

Look, if you’re an N64 guy then more power to you. It’s experiencing a renaissance of sorts while the ps1 languishes and fades in memory. But if you think there’s a “god” to be seen in Xenogears or any JRPG (other than the final bosses, who are often more like Demons than gods) then I’ve got a bridge and 12 cartridges to sell you (containing the data of one JRPG). And if you’re just a JRPG guy pointing out my errors then please, by all means, elucidate. If you’re seeing something I’ve missed in 20+ Annual playthroughs then I’m all ears. And I say this as someone who’s played in the original Japanese.
