"Union" rules protect Jamal. I just do his job.

Jamal is a union legend. He clocks in, strolls to the customer service counter, and leans there like he’s on break from a break.
His entire shift is a TikTok binge, occasionally interrupted by him laughing and muttering, “Union strong, friend.”
Today, a woman in a tracksuit with “JUICY” emblazoned across her BBW posterior waddled up, demanding help finding “the healthy cereals.” She turned to Jamal, who didn’t even bother looking up from his phone. He jabbed a thumb in my direction and said, “That’s Evan’s department - he runs this place.”
I spent the next hour guiding JUICY through the cereal aisle while Jamal recorded a TikTok dance in the stockroom. Later, he passed me in the breakroom, smirked, and said, “Management won’t touch me, friend. Grievance city.”
Mopped the entire store alone, and as the TikTok bass thudded from the back, I whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
