I saw a dude on another site (I've met him irl) post a picture of his bloody, alcoholism induced vomit, laughing about it. The picture was vile. His legs were rotting. I just so happened to be going through severe alcohol withdrawals at the time, and it sent me over the edge. I was drinking the equivalent of 25 drinks a night, getting blackout drunk, and I knew that that dude was going to be me if I didn't change my ways. Pic below.

Anyways, I went to a group that was full of biblethumpers, and it made me uncomfortable because I knew it was Christian, but not that Christian. They had speakers for 30 minutes and one guy told a story about how he accidentally killed his wife by buying her alcohol and she died from some sort of alcoholism-induced illness in his arms. Afterwards, I spoke about how I got there, from my mother feeding me alcohol, oxycontin, hydros, all that shit from the age of 14. She died earlier this year, and then my brother killed himself two weeks later and I went off the deep end. Everyone was silent for a long length of time, and it made my skin crawl. Afterwards, I met a dude that happened to be at the same base as me but was an officer, we chatted, and he recommended a different place, the one I went to today.
It was full of people like me. Much less churchy, albeit still Christian. It was 90% men, all of whom seemed like cool guys that I would've drank with. They welcomed me, made the entire meeting about me, and gave me my first coin and book. I'm going back tomorrow. I never want to drink again. God willing, I stay the path. Love you guys.
