Chances I could land a sweet gig in completely new state on the JD preferred route? Assume T14/ex-biglaw (currently in a decent JD required non-practicing position).

Where to find? Indeed, anything else?

Do they require specific experience in biglaw or something like that, or are they more like "we just want someone smart who knows how to read complex regulations"?

Oh, they're definitely out there. Starting to realize how risk averse and retarded most young lawyers are. No business sense or creativity. There are some CR articles out there if you take the time to research it. A fair number of "public policy" jobs can be spun as JD advantage.

They're real but you have to kind of luck out to break into them. Usually companies want to see a specific skillset applicable to the work. They aren't going to train someone on how to do the substantive aspects of the work. They want you to be already trained and just need to train you on the red tape that comes with working for that specific big company. Once you are in you are in though and can move around to other big companies at will and shit. But you'll never make much more than low 6 fig.

How much bsing can you do to get these? Like study up on whatever subject matter beforehand and then feign more expertise than you have? Or is that a bad idea?

Yeah you can do that, and that's why I'm saying you have to kind of luck out into it. They are always going to prefer another compliance person from big company X over you, unless somehow you can show you did whatever relevant shit and really sell the few tiny things you did and make it look like you did it on a regular basis.

"But you'll never make much more than low 6 fig."

That's roughly median for lawyers anyway. And these are low stress, 9-5 cube jobs.

That's true, but it is kind of depressing KNOWING you are stuck there for life, as the skillset you get in those kinds of jobs is not really applicable to anything else.
