we'll all find out 5 minutes after brain death whether it's anything important. |

And that’s definitely one thing that consciousness, that great hallucination maker does. Consciousness, at least human consciousness, really works against clear thinking sometimes and obscures answers, leaves us in the tarpit of human subjectivity when the answer to certain problems we really need to answer may require us first to try to think like AI, or aliens, or lions!
As an aside, this is one reason art is so important. While art may or may not teach us to think like aliens or AI or lions(!) it may at a minimum teach a certain plasticity or expansion of awareness, at least for a little while. Like squats for our sense of selfhood. |

Generally speaking consciousness happens to have qualities that are beneficial to the survival of the creature. It is susceptible to being hijacked by parasites like religion.
