yes. There are lots of things that you think you "know" but you dont. Writing will expose those things and also allow you to practice writing basic things that will definitely come up (conspiracy, negligence, etc.)

It's a good idea to actually take at least a few exams, but if ypu have access to model answers, I would focus a fair amount of time on studying how they are structured and written (focusing in particular on the level of granularity and selectiivity in raising issues/arguments), even if that means taking fewer exams. Bottom line is that your exam taking technique isn't likely to improve that much merely by taking more practice exams without getting feedback. Model answers at least give you some insight into the approachs that profs reward.
