So I used to smoke recreationally late in high school/college/law school but stopped for the most part because sometimes I'd get paranoid plus terrible anxiety. I have kinda bad anxiety anyway IRL.
I feel like this is a dosage thing. I.e., I got paranoid because I smoked too much for my own tolerance levels, but I'm not sure if that's true?
Is it possible to smoke tiny bits of weed (I'm talking like a little sliver, like .001 grams), waiting 30 minutes, and then adding more if necessary, as a way to avoid side effects? Yah I won't get blazing high but I just want the chill/reflective state without side effects.

I think that was the only time I got truly paranoid/delusional from smoking.
Most other bad experience would be more classified as really bad anxiety, and self-critical thoughts that bring me down and make me want the high to just go away.
Weirdly though every time I got bad anxiety, it would eventually go away and I'd have a fun time. But just knowing I'd have to get through that awful period ruined it for me.

I ate too much and started to shake uncontrolably, for a couple of hours. Not fun...
There was also the time where the cops were yelling outside my door, so I got really scared and hid but they kept yelling so I went and opened my door, and realized I was actually hearing the noise from my fan and the whole thing was an auditory halluciantion.

yes
also though I have probably smoked around half the weed of the whole board
you can moderate - the trick is to take one or two tokes to get a good buzz on

Yes. Other tips:
1. Try indica strains. A lot of the varietal talk is bullshit; however, some strains are engineered with too much THC relative to other chems. I've found that causes paranoia.
2. Drik a couple of beers.
3. AVOID edibles.

Hybrids are cool too, enjoy.
Finally, start out in a familiar environment.
I've found smoking alone in a dark forest or a party where you don't know too many people can be very paranoia inducing; while smoking at home is super relaxing. If things get bad, just lie in bed and go to sleep.
