Does the police asking a family member about where I am mean that they're actively investigating the case?
Asked about 4 hours ago - Bronx, NY Flag
Criminal Investigation Domestic Violence Family Violence Police Questioning
a few months ago family member 1 (steve) called the police alleging misdemeanor assault.
then i didn't hear anything about them until 2 months later, when officers visited family member 2's house. fam member 2 (john) said that there are no more problems between the complainant and the suspect, and in fact neither party is there. both have been away. the officers did not inquire further.
then 2 months later, (john) went to the precinct for a completely unrelated incident. they asked "by the way, while you're here, where is suspect?"
Does this question mean
1. they're not tracking me online because if they were, then they wouldn't need to ask?
2. The case is still open, but they're not actively pursuing it because they didn't initiate the inquiry—it was a "while you're here" question.

This is very interesting. You were not arrested, I am assuming, following that person's complaint. Have you been moving around from the date of the complaint to the time they actually asked about your whereabouts? In other words, could they have been looking for you all along and not been able to locate? What if you were expected to appear in court at one point and never showed up? Then you may have an outstanding bench warrant. I need more detail then what you presented here.
The aforementioned answer should not be construed to replace the advice of a legal professional, given after a... more

no i was not arrested. I've never been given a court date. I don't know if they've been actively looking for me but they've only followed up 3 times: once the day after, once 2 months later where they stopped asking questions after john told him that there were no more problems, and just now, when john went to the precinct for an unrelated investigation.

Maybe there's a summons out there with your name on it. The whole thing is strange. I assume it is venued in the Bronx. You should really sit down with an attorney and have a proper search done so this way you know where you stand.
