I'm an complete idiot (see moniker) but this strikes me as the absolute last thing anyone in the government would want to do 3 months before an election.

Inflation isn't some reified "magical" force that lurks in the shadows ready to pounce if we aren't vigilant. It reflects market dynamics. The recent bout of it was caused by massive government overspending combined with massive monetary easing in response to a strong flu season. The renormalization process isn't a straight line but there isn't any structural reason the US will have steady 4+% inflation that is out of our control.

Don't know what this means but it seems like a giant market crash plus a panic meeting to cut rates doesn't really 'vibe' with the government's stated position that the economy is strong as fuck.

The economy being apparently strong and inflation coming down to target is a signal … no one is raising capital/spending it at the rates offered …

The ballooning debt service payments of USG. It is currently the #1 item on the budget.

Most newly issued US debt ends up at the Fed. We are monetizing it. The pace is only going to increase thanks to the miracle of compound interest.

Very rare for FED to do Emergency rate cuts. I am not expecting one here. There is no emergency. Jews losing a few shekels is not an emergency.

There's no magical knob that lets the Fed adjust inflation like a thermostat. Interest rates are an extremely blunt tool with lots of lag time.

That's why everyone was so skeptical of a soft landing. It's impossible to get the timing and level of rate cuts just right

They kept interest rates at 5.25% even as inflation tanked. So real interest rates spiked - suddenly monetary policy looks WAAAY too tight

shitcons, with their relentlessly shitty and exaggerated attitude toward inflation, scared the Fed into holding off at the last meeting. "The data doesn't show what REAL Americans are feeling! Have you seen the price of milk!" Had you stfu about relatively mild inflation, the Fed wouldn't have worried about a backlash to cutting last month.

Are you now telling us Biden’s Fed made a decision based on what was politically helpful to his own party?
