I feel ridiculous asking this, but I honestly keep going back and forth on this.

I work a "JD-preferred" job at a fairly large organization.

Pros: Good benefits, good bosses and co-workers, stress-free environment. Strict 8-5 job, I get to telecommute 1-3 days a week depending on meetings and what's going on in the office. I probably only do like 15 hours of real work a week.

Cons: Horrid pay (50k in a high COL city), boring and deadend work. Ostensibly "JD-preferred" but it's really nothing but data-entry. I'd say the work itself is more limiting than even doc review (I used to do doc review). No real room for growth here.

I often dither between man I need to hang on to this job for dear life and I need to gtfo, even if I need to go back to doc review

Good benefits--

DB pension & formula, ESP, 401k, if so, what's the match? How's the med? What's the co-insurance? Do they pay for the gym? How much paid leave/vacation? STD?

Strict 8-5 job, I get to telecommute 1-3 days a week depending on meetings and what's going on in the office.--

dude, that's pretty amazing if no flame.

Horrid pay (50k in a high COL city)--

NYC?

Ostensibly "JD-preferred" but it's really nothing but data-entry. I'd say the work itself is more limiting than even doc review (I used to do doc review). No real room for growth here--

tbf, most law work doesn't get much more interesting, if not MORE tedious and dead end.

I often dither between man I need to hang on to this job for dear life and I need to gtfo, even if I need to go back to doc review--

if it's STRICT 8-5 AND good benes (esp a DB plan), stick it out. I quit a boring job at 24 that I regret now as I would have retired, FULL PENSION, at 44.

FULL PENSION is pretty meaningless when you're making 50k with little potential for advancement. that pension might pay for your HOA fees.

It sounds like a bad job. You aren't learning and building experience. Are there good advancement opportunities? If not, why stick around?

$50K is shit bro. Unless you really think you have the potential to advance you should do everything you can to find something either with a lower COL or more $ in your city. there's no use in striving away in NYC for dick pay.
