LJL at this shit profession. JFC, the irony of all the ppl burning out cause the BARFAIL, get NOJERB'd, get LATHAM'd at firms is that they never actually get to experience really practicing law. If they did, they would realize how truly SPS it is.

Yeah, but if they knew what they truly were getting into the 50k cubicle SPS jerb actually looks better.

The irony is that they think its some GOOD jerb they would somewhat enjoy. That is unfathomable to me. I dont think anyone could truly enjoy litigation at least unless your just the most anal fucked up deprived person on Earth.

Protip: litigation is not really advocacy. It is maybe 20% that, and the rest is procedure, evidence shit rules, deadlines, dealing with client bullshit... this insane idea that all lawyers are in court arguing their DRAMATIC position to the JURY at the BEHEST of their INJURED suffering client and then getting dat 10mm JURY VERDICT is LJL

Not really. 99% of shitlawyers just settle everything. But not only do they just settle everything, they don't even make any sophisticated arguments. It's the worst of both worlds. Basically an administrative job.

No one could enjoy doing junior/midlevel associate bitchwork and endless discovery bitching, etc. But shit like taking depositions, writing briefs, arguing motions, strategizing about what theories to pursue / motions to file, and occasionally trying a case, can be legitimately enjoyable for at least some people.

Agreed. The worst thing about this economy is that it wasn't just a waste of 3 years. These guys waste 3 years, then another year just finding like part time shit work, if they are lucky, then like 3 yrs past law school before they even get "real" associate level work (again, if they are lucky), so it's like a 6-7 year path to have the knowledge necessary to know it's not what they want to do with their lives.

I think one big reason lawyers want to KILLSELF so much is that they are ready and willing to be BRUTALLY raped by the legal profession as long as they learn how to actually practice law so they can have a self sustaining career, but what happens is they learn shit in LS, shit post bar, shit at first job, there is no formal training program at all, no one gives a fuk at you, LS just uses ur for ur tuition, firms just use u for a pyramic scheme 2 year bullshit assignment, ITS LJL

Honestly I blame our shit court system more than anything. We need to hire more judges and push cases to trial. Get rid of these insane discovery rules. If cases were actually pushed to trial in a reasonable time a lot more lawyers would gain real skills. It shouldn't be some massive achievement just to have a single trial under your belt.

trials are too expensive and time consuming, u never cld have a system dependent on more cases goin to trial

u actually shld just make most cases Judge Judy style admin type hearings where everoyne just has their 15 min in Court and the judge decides, but i assume there are due process issues with this BS, faggot constitution

the reason trials are so expensive is because of insane prep work necessary to get there... for smaller cases (like sub $1 million) unlimited discovery/depos is just insane. Everyone knows they have the nuclear option and can just make the case prohibitively expense and force settlement. For simple cases you should just have to try that shit.

Yeah, but even if u heavily restricted discovery and just had a short trial the defense costs wld still be too high to justify fighting most cases instead of settling

the only way to rectify this is to lower defense lawyer's billable hourly rates, which will never happen

im not suggesting all cases but if it was like a reasonable 3-4 month timeframe to get to trial instead of 1.5-3 yrs or something nuts a lot more cases would get tried, and more importantly associates would get a lot more experience and quicker with the phases of each case, discovery cutoffs, etc. even if the cases do end up settling.

that is basically what happens in asbestos cases in CA cause they get super fast tracked because the plaintiff is usually dying, and the result is actually a SHITLAW mega industry developed around it in which the a few experiences lawyers hire SHITLAW fuks straight out of LS, teach them a few things and then force them to go to trial in every case and learn on the job, the result is usually the SHITLAWYERS learning how to practice WRONGFULLY and burning the fuck out within 12 months

most paralegals aren't exposed to how awful it is. they just know they work for "very important people" who seem to be making sophisticated decisions with important people listening to them while commanding a high hourly rate. they are also surrounded by all the trappings of legal success while not having to be exposed to the shitty side of it. the worst thing someone could do to learn about the profession is become a BIGLAW paralegal.
