Because he's also pragmatic. He's not going to get elected being pro-gaza or criticizing Israel. He would lose donors, the Nazi attack angle would be more effective, and he wouldn't gain the vote of many protestors.
Kamala needed to ride the fence and I knew it would be a major problem for her. She couldn't be seen as totally pro-Israel (and also cozy with the Cheneys) and expect pro-Palestinians to vote for her. She also couldn't be totally pro-Palestinian and not be called a radical or lose support from Jews (and Jewish donors, media companies, think tanks, corporations, hollywood, boomers who think they're our greatest ally, etc.)
