It was just me, closing alone. Lights dimmed, doors locked, everything quiet except for the hum of the coolers. I was halfway through my end-of-shift routine when I heard it: footsteps.
They were slow, deliberate, coming from the back of the store. My heart sank. I grabbed a broom and called out, “Hello? Store’s closed!”
No response, just more footsteps.
I checked every aisle—empty. But the sound didn’t stop. Finally, I went to the security office, pulled up the live feed, and froze.
There, on the screen, I saw myself. Walking the aisles. But I wasn’t holding a broom. I was just… staring.
Looked up from the monitor, and the store was dead silent again. I turned off the cameras, locked the office, and whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
