I know a lot about this subject. Researched the hell out of it.
They really stopped doing lightgun games on consoles in the Wii/Ps3/360 era. Now its all emulation or mostly in the arcades
You can buy things like this (I have one, the one with rumble feedback) for emulation:
https://sindenlightgun.com/
They work fine on flat screen tvs. A lot of lightguns have annoying light sensors that you have to mount on the tv, the sinden puts a light ring around the tv screen (on the game). Sindens and gun4air are the two big ones that i know of.
You can emulate tons of shit on a raspberry pi (which is what I use, up through Wii or so but kinda janky at times), but better on a PC for the later gen stuff.
The modern arcade light gun games can be emulated through something called Tecknoparrot. The Sinden gun above works with this. Shit like Jurrasic Park, Walking Dead, Terminator, Rambo, etc. that you see in the arcade
I am waiting for the AMD 890M gpus (starting to come out now but pretty expensive so far) to come out to buy a mini pic that goes behind my TV for this stuff, up through PS3 and Tecknoparrot,
Go to https://www.arcadepunks.com/ for complete builds of this shit like wiht a front end and games all included in one (I downloaded a 500gb one for my raspberry pi from there, but they have tons of other platforms like PC, steam deck, etc), and they have specific light gun builds that you can download https://www.arcadepunks.com/retrobat-lightgun-build-2-1-by-scotty-retro/
