Date: December 5th, 2014 6:55 PM Author: Irate gas station Recently accepted offer at a workers comp firm in southern california. Firm is midsized with a number of offices and 50-100 attorneys. They offered me 70k to start with health insurance, regular salary review, bonuses, etc. It's a legit 9-5.
The firm seems chill and this is prob the least stressful job I can imagine in the law, but is it really "in the law"?? Was in court all week and met a number of prolish types. It's def not prestigious.
Maybe that bothers me a little bit, but honestly, most attorneys that aren't in biglaw are retarded anyway. Is it worth it to try to work in another practice area (probably with more stress but same pay) for the promise and opportunity of being a "real attorney"? I'm not sure what the ceiling is on income here, but I'm pretty sure it's low. My firm only bills clients at <200/hr! |

But what I meant to suggest was that if I were doing shitlaw in some civil practice area, theoretically I could one day start my own practice or move up to a position making several hundred thousand /yr. Wondering if that's worth it for me. I have a shitlaw friend that has been practicing for twelve yrs and just went solo who is making ~400k. I haven't actually billed anything yet because it's a decent firm and they are actually training me before they give me my own files.
