This was a way of "deploying" without doing anything counterproductive. At worst the troops spend winter in the Caribbean.
Strategically it signals weakness too, because Venezuela is right next fucking door to the continental USA. This never required a long slow buildup unless we intended to put boots on the ground, which not even Trump was ready to do. You could tell right away that this was the military fucking with Hegseth, saying "ok we'll move some ships out there" and then hanging up the phone |
