snatch and grab the president of a country that is on alert for an attack. Guys like the Delta folks live life on a level most of us can't understand.

cr. i thought about this when they raided bin laden's compound, like the feeling those guys must've had when they came face to face with him - like, they found him and got him

p.s. gotta be a crazy transition to try to go be a spreadsheet jockey after you're done with the marines. not surprising that a lot of those guys struggle with it and continue to do high adrenaline things

i used to do specops when i was in. it's just a different kind of rush. i mean it was badass doing elite shit with team guys but lets be real, most of the enemies were camelfucking retards who couldnt hit a can at 5m. it's like an entire biglaw firm vs zzz. i get the same rush when i find an on point case that no one else has discovered yet and it's directly applicable to the motion i'm writing.

I didn't mean to suggest that the rush the Delta guys feel compares to that of legal scholarship.

Same, pressure/adrenaline of specops (as those of us on the inside call it for short) was really not much different than when I played college ball

agreed - it's similar to the rush you typically get from walking up to a gorgeous model, shooting your shot, and taking her home with you

I did specops too but our unit dissolved into backbiting over whether something could be "very unique" and it was a mess. In biglaw we can resolve that sort of thing civilly.

Cr. I’m fairly confident a mission like this is higher profile but much lower risk than a lot of shit these dudes do. They probably have stories they can never tell that blow this sort of op out of the water.

i dunno. invading a major sovereign enemy nation with billions in defense and weapons and kidnapping the POTUS and engaging in a gunfight over it seems like a pretty peak mission. Pretty sure this has never been done.

This is the same unit that did shit like Hawija IIRC - much higher intensity work.

i once watched an interview with an ex delta force dude (he was actually a character on the show SEAL Team). He couldn't talk much about the selection process other than it involved a month of super hard hiking carrying heavy packs. He then started talking about the actual training, and described it as "you then started doing training stuff, Rambo, etc., that made you feel like you were the star of an action movie"

I think he was a former Ranger too. Even he was blown away when he got to Delta.
