I think you misunderstand Nintendo.
Nintendo is about making games FUN, which is why the Switch has been so succesful. It really wasn't that revolutionary - it was more of a retro device that played games in the classic style.
XBox and PS can keep trying to create thousand hour open world games with hyper realistic graphics - they're a chore to play.
Occulus can keep trying to push the envelope on VR games - they're impressive but not fun.
Nintendo realized games peaked in terms of fun between 1985-1999 and are creating the best systems to replicate those experiences.
