background: my sister is the cringiest most tacky person when it comes to this shit. every year she sends around wishlists for her kids in a group chat then sits back as the grandparents and my BiL's siblings clamour to buy them shit tier plastic garbage from Amazon. She then *follows up* with you if you haven't claimed toys from the list in 1-2 days. as witnessed directly, her kids never use any of it. they just play soccer, wrestle each other and, most of all, play on their iPads
because i am so annually disgusted by this shit, when she asks what dottir wants, I will say, "oh thanks, but no worries. I'm trying to avoid buying a bunch of stuff from Amazon this year. Going for quality over quantity (potentially substitute, "trying to get [him / her / them] something really meaningful this year.")
