The ability to "afford" something is subjective imo. I max out all of my retirement accounts, Roth IRA, and have a post-tax brokerage accounts where I make immense profits from memes. Many redditors who think they can afford Switch 2 are the Same People crying about "healthcare" and "Obamacare subsidies" who "can't afford a House." Same People.

These things aren't mutually exclusive. WHEN I have income (during Democratic administrations, for the most part. funny how that works), I contribute to my retirement fund and Emergency Fund.
