I binged it on release but it didn't live up to EDF 5 at all. They completely fucked over the air raider kit and the story campaign had a lot of garbage filler and level repeats. The new enemies mostly sucked. The high points were as good as any EDF game but at least 40 missions needed to be cut. There is no fucking way I'm even going to *try* filling in medals for all the classes.

Oh, and I almost forgot--there are huge swaths of the game where the air raider is seriously restricted and cannot use most of his kit. The cave missions were of course like that before, but now it's the cave missions *and* large amounts of outside missions for "plot reasons."

Cr I heard it was a bit of an EDF 4 situation and that the additions are not worth the price tag. Performance is also supposedly worse than 5's across the board

My gfx card has been on the fritz since April or so so the only things I've been playing are Rimworld, Songs of Syx, Halls of Torment, and other low rez indie titles

I have Songs of Syx wishlisted along with 500+ other games waiting for a sale.

You can get a Dome Keeper key for $1. That's the last low-rez game I played and it's good for a weekend or so to knock out the challenges.

Brother it is excellent and the dev is an absolute autistic chad with some big Dwarf Fortress style plans for his little passion project. Can't recommend it enough. Pre .63 or whatever I streamed a playthrough for two xoers as "Overlord Alex Jones" of the "Reptilian Nation" and the emergent interactions were hilarious and much fun

Dome Keeper looked really good and I think it's on my wishlist. Where is it 1$ shekel atm

Have you played Core Keeper? Top down terraria with some very lush pixel art, think it's 4-8 player co-op

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2286390/Tunnet/ this one was for extreme autists only but also taught me some valuable real life applicable skills about running computer networks

indie releases have just been getting better and better during the Biden years imo

Get it at one of the places on allkeyshop.com. It was recently in a humble bundle so is dirt cheap now.

Haven't played core keeper. It looks good but I'm more inclined to play roguelikes than multiplayer survival. Terraria is the only game my wife has ever really been into (she's not a gamer but got hooked on it with me shortly after we started dating), but we have a baby now so no way she's going to devote any time to games.

What would u pick between songs of syx and dwarf fortress? I don't have either and would probably only want to spend time learning one of them.

Well congrats on the baby and that is big news indeed

Songs of Syx actually doesn't take too long to pick up once you have the blueprinting function down. I prefer both it and Rimworld to Dwarf Fortress (latter is still, even after all this time, riddled with too many arcane features and a generally unpleasant UI. it can also be "too random" at times in a way that Rimworld isn't and it is very hard to get past a certain scale without everyone dying and your base e.g. choking to death on dead otter fumes or opening a portal to hell or similar)

SoS is a mixture of idk Dwarf Fortress and maybe a Total War game and less focused on individual actor actions/interactions between traits and instead more about the interactions between the sim pop and what you've built around them. If you liked Rimworld but found it to be too "The Sims"ish/soapy and wished there was more of the raiding and Tropico style logistics mgmt elements in the game then SoS is probably your bag. I also find the graphics style to be very endearing; reminds me of some of the Black & White or Red Alert 2 type games I used to play back on a glowing CRT in a dark room in the middle of the night

re Multiplayer survival "Abiotic Factor" is worth checking out. Half Life 1 but open-ish world multiplayer survival taking place in a mongrelized setting cross between Black Mesa & SCP Foundation

I have lots of friends playing "Balatro" while pretending to work hard for boss but I am not a big card game guy so haven't been able to get into it

STALKER 2 also comes out later this month but gfx card is busted so probably no dice on that on this end

Klei's "Rotwood" is still in an early state but I've enjoyed what I've played of it so far and think it'll eventually be the fine successor to Castle Crashers that they're trying to set it up to be https://store.steampowered.com/app/2015270/Rotwood/

Do you play deckbuilders at all? I was playing Draft of Darkness a couple of weeks ago and it's awesome. Has an amazing old-school PS1 survival horror art style.

I have balatro but it's pretty mid. Had a bit of fun with it, but it's sort of soulless and math-ey. For deckbuilders that are centered around "real" cards, I thought Poker Quest was better.

Gonna give Metal Slug Tactics a try this weekend since they put it up on Microsoft Prolepass.

I do not typically. I played a little pvp Gwent when that still had a community but that's as far as I'll go with it (assuming that is a deckbuilder? not sure)

Agreed on Balatro; I didn't really enjoy it. Seemed sort of pointless progression/skill curve-wise although the pixel art is v good and visually lush throughout

Turn-based/card-based type stuff I don't have the patience for these days although I did enjoy Alexis Kennedy's "Cultist Simulator" quite a bit despite how deliberately obtuse it was

This game is objectively a clunky polack piece of shit but I enjoyed it thoroughly: https://store.steampowered.com/app/756800/Contraband_Police/

The "Papers, Please" eastern european border checkpoint is a great and underutilized setting for games. They took the Cordon.map zone from STALKER: SOC and made an entire game out of it where you, as Officer Borat, are ripping apart people's cars looking for smuggled cocaine and shooting Turk expys in the back for driving through without giving you their passports
