everything is in the past. what's left is running on momentum, winding down with painstaking slowness that's just perceptible enough to be unignorable. when another pillar of society fails we just shrug our shoulders. attempts at recapturing our former exuberance is met with glib comments of naivety at best or scathing condemnations at worst. within the collective consciousness is a constant numb ache that "this is it. we're circling the drain from here on out."

this isn't wholly depressing. things will be fine for me and my ilk. i can go out and enjoy nature, casually enjoy luxuries unfathomable to almost ever other person that existed, spend time with friends and family. rome isn't burning yet. we were fortunate to be born at the american empire's apex and live through the decline. sure, there won't be another brooklyn bridge. no hoover dam. not for us. but if you're on xoxo you're not in the class that will truly suffer in our lifetimes. it's like seeing the first daffodil flower begin to wilt. oh well, that's it, at least we can enjoy what's left of the show!
