things are going well for me actually. that said, i constantly regret leaving biglaw. i was set up to inherit around 2m in business, plus i got to bask in the prestige of being a partner at a vault 63 firm. there's nothing like it. |

i came to baker hostetler from jackson lewis, which you may already know is an L&E firm. i got really good experience there, but the firm sucks. the pay sucks and it's full of psychos.
i made partner at BH and was there for 7 years. i really liked it but i was there when i was circling the drain with addiction. i was always really good at my job, but i was billing like 1200 hours a year for a couple years. the firm never talked to me, but my comp was shit, i was making like 360k as a fifth year partner. i'd kept in touch with people at JL and they told me all this bullshit about how the firm was different. obviously that wasn't true but i was so sour about my comp that i went back. BH tried to get me to stay and they probably would have bumped me to 450 to stay, but i went.
JL was bullshit and completely turned me against law firms. after about 18 months i went to my current firm because they offered me equity off the bat. i figured i would milk it for as much money as possible and move on to a different career.
i have 5 more years at a firm and i'm going to do something else or retire entirely.
anyway, i guess life is a journey and i shouldn't regret leaving biglaw but i do often. honestly, i probably make more now than i would have if i'd stayed. |
