everywhere that is self-consciously "fine dining" or about an "experience" or where the chef is a "star" is universally flame and try-hard Instagram-bait

I distinguish that from restaurants where you go because they make really delicious things that are enjoyable to eat and nobody gives a fuck about any "experience", where nobody would think to take a picture of the food instead of eating it with pleasure

I felt this way about Arthur’s Tavern in Morris Plains, NJ. What a delightful dinner I had there with a famous New Jersey poaster, husband, father of four, homeowner, lawyer extraordinaire.

Haute cuisine is a residual pecuniary emulation of monarch's feast but scaled down to pretend and focus more in the individual level. It has as such evolved to modern day price gouging but under the pretense of creating jobs and patronizing the local economy. Curiously enough this is how you end up with $20 instagram avocado toasts- having the consumer feel like their spending power is greater than the sell side's ability to mark down and stop transferring costs, but this is not in their best interest so they continue to pocket the chump bucks.

tldr; I'll have fish sticks and a pint instead thanks...
