They usually intentionally only campaign a little for the VP, because the VP wants to look like their own man.
Reagan campaigned a little for Bush I (who won in a landslide and didn't really need it). He was not that popular at the end, Iran Contra was happening and Bush wanted to not be associated with that.
Clinton IIRC didn't campaign at all for Gore, at Gore's request. This was dumb because Clinton was still popular and probably would have pushed Gore over the edge in an extremely close race.
Biden campaigned a little for Harris, but weird situation obviously, with Biden stepping down.
