DAMN that Eurogamer review is brutal. They really did not like Myles being a mainstay lol.

So he's a mainstay? Guess Reddit was completely wrong about it just being a tutorial thing, damn.

Ladies, 5/10 is mediocre, 6/10 is okay, 7/10 is good, and 8/10 is great, a great Metroid Prime game is what you want! This is not the same Retro that made the originals, barely a third of the original staff remains there, this is exactly what we were hoping for, this isn't a Shenmue 3 or Duke Nukem Forever, it was never going to be like the height of the originals, but they've managed to deliver regardless, so my booty is very ready for 4th of December, and then whatever they're going to do next :)

But in GPA terms 8/10 is 2.6666 which wouldn’t even get you into Pharmacy School bc it implies subpar cognitive function

After some initial, more heavy-handed hours, Myles mercifully fades into the background whenever you're out of the home base. But if you're driving around the desert for too long, he'll buzz and unsubtly remind you that if you're not sure where to go you can give him a call for a tip. On a few occasions - usually after finishing one dungeon but before you have the necessary skills to enter another - the game casts you fully loose to figure out how to get the keys you need on your own. But this only goes so far - take too long, or enter an area that is irrelevant at that point, and Myles will pop up on the radio eagerly. 'Hey, Samus - wasn't there a door you couldn't open in the volcano?'

There is no consensus Good open world. Elden Ring has no handholding and it has sidequests that literally make no sense that you’d only figure out through astral projection or having extremely Far Eastern sensibilities. The modern gamer will just check the internet and act like they didn’t:
Also GTA started the open world trend and yet it’s really nothing like any of this shit. GTA is a Good open world. Fallout etc can be good if Gen Xers work on it. It shouldn’t be the Default Game.
When you really think about it, MGS4’s entire map is like a few acres. Way too small. But the solution is not Acres. It’s just to have really big levels. Huge levels are cool imo. Like those Genesis games like Jurassic park where you’d jump around enormous levels as a Raptor gouging enemies eyes out and doing fatalities. Games should have actual levels but they should just be big af and not like just Land Mass. prime at least tries to do this.
