I went to kiss her outside her outside in the street after we got back to my place, but she shunned me, went to her car and that was that. She invited me out once again, and this time we went to an 80s cover band night at some bar in her friends town, spent that night sleeping next to her in her friends small apartment. She would let me spoon her, but would not kiss me. I had like 3 Charlie horses that night because I was running a lot at the time and not eating. The next morning, I remember cruising up the farm to market road feeling used and empty and knowing that this wouldn’t work out. She got married to some fire fighter and now works for a chemical engineering consultancy in Lake Jackson, Tex. |

I reminisce about the hills and the autumnal colors. The OU girl and I had a thing in the summertime in Vermont. That was a fun, care free summer. I later saw her once again in Dallas, but like her summertime bush, the magic was gone and she just grossed me out. The girl that wound up in Elkhart was horrifically abused her whole life. She was broken and scared of her own shadow. I also broke up with her and went back to her like 3-4x, so she really taught me that some people truly have no self esteem. |

I knew her when she was like 16. She had recently lost a lot of weight. She hardly ever talked about her parents, but when she did, it was very off. Her dad was in the Navy and ruled the house authoritarianly. Her mom had no say in anything. She went by her middle name because dad preferred it, but most of all, Dad preferred her sister, and she was devastated by this. We never made it past making out or whatever, but I strongly believe that this girl was not a sexual person too. She had some seriously messed up views. She kept coming back to me because she saw me as a way to get out of her house when she graduated from high school. She told me as much. She would say, "I could come live with you as soon as I graduate." Shit like that. She would not have made a good wife. She had nothing to offer. She was dumb and a prole and had the nerves of a cat who'd been forced to live its entire life on the hot tin roof of a shithouse. |
