start with a classical greatest hits CD and find which composer you like best. Bach is very different than Straus who is different than Debussy. You will start to notice the nuances of each composer, and be able to recognize their music from their unique sound signature. Also, each composer favored a certain instrument, so if you like violin over harpsichord, look for that

if you have spotify, this is a good spotify list to start with. has some full pieces of music but is mostly individual stand-out/well-known movements from many of the great composers.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWWEJlAGA9gs0
i recommend going through this list, liking the pieces you enjoy, and then going from there. either letting the algorithm guide you at first or if you want to be more active from the get-go, just searching more for the composers that you enjoy. if you enjoy a single movement from a piece, search for the full version of it and listen to the entire thing. then move on to other works by the same composer.
something to note about classical music: individual conductor interpretations can actually matter quite a bit (if they choose to significantly speed up/slow down tempo of a piece or if multiple versions of the same piece exist) so pay attention to the conductors, orchestras and soloists used in the recording of the pieces you enjoy as well.
classical music is really like peeling an onion in a lot of ways. but just jump in and get started.
