I an waving the towel here. what are some basic resources to decide which one is cr, what it can and can't do to help you, etc.

not flame brother just ask AI to give you an outline or lesson plan(s) for bringing you up to speed, based on what specifically you'd like to use it for. you can start out by doing a deep research request on how you can integrate AI into your solo practice, and then follow up with specific questions afterwards
right now chatgpt is the best model for what i imagine you're going to use it for. enable the 'chain of thought' and 'search the web' buttons when you ask it questions. be explicit and directive with it like you're talking to a paralegal
i'm not a lawyer so i don't know lawyer-specific tricks but i know some other poasters here do. it's already pretty strong at making legal inferences from what i'm told. i just don't know where you guys get access to past cases and docs to feed it the info it needs

Deep Research is a good start. the o3 model is a lightweight version of this. if you ask it a question requiring research, it will do it and provide citations. it's less complete than Deep Research but works well for many things. the Google version of Deep Research also works well.
in terms of overall model intelligence for writing or reading documents, o3 and Gemini 2.5 pro are a step beyond everything else at the moment.

yeah, not a lolyer myself, but your industry is for sure one of the industries where AI is going to dominate everything
i am actually personally building what you describe above, because i have a lot of proprietary info i use for my job. but it takes work and time and $. ask me again in a few months and i'll be able to help you do the same if you still want it
but like i said above, based on my knowledge of lolyering, you're going to get a loooot more mileage out of making these kind of queries drawing from all available Cloud info. i don't know how your westlaw/lexisnexis/whatever platform thingies work, but i'm sure there are ways for AI to pull info from them with API access somehow
