Daughter invited to join elite select soccer team.

The goal was keep soccer just fun for the next year at least and let her continue with other activities she likes. Cementing a spot on this club would all but ensure she plays D1 in college. its worth it to devote all her time over the next decade to a sport that she will never play again after age 22 or so and that monopolizes the family's time on the weekend.

I think the elite clubs are largely scams, but if she loves soccer and wants to be top tier maybe it’s worth it. If there is any ambivalence, I would lean towards “no,” just because elite clubs are scammy and you only get to be a kid once. She can still make a D1 team if that’s what she wants to do. Or maybe she can go to a smaller school and play intramural. Whatever. They have some great IM fields there at Fairleigh Dickinson. |
