i would never call the cops over non-violent crime, petty property damage, or minor theft and generally prefer to resolve my disputes through the community or a mediator
i'm against the carceral state in general and think that the US court system is full of bloat, and neither of these is particularly controversial as an opinion to have, even amongst law enforcement these days

Because the real threat is almost never the criminal; they can be dealt with pretty easily if allowed.
