Your son will be the 300th best player nationally in his HS class year at any sport of your choosing. What sport do you choose for him? What do you do or encourage him to do in light of this?

Anything he likes really. Literally any sport that he finds fun. 300th best will make him a top tier HS stud (i.e., there are many, many HS athletes in this country) then he can try to play college somewhere if he wants. if he makes the team, he'll get that D1 backup / ivy (assuming academics) runoff trim. this is a pretty easy hypo if you know how sports work

yes exactly. the path of the 300th best HS athlete in any sport is not that of a college star and future pro. he should just maximize fun and enjoyment from being a top HS athlete, try to continue in college if possible and leverage the college athletics experience, confidence gained from being an athlete, etc. in whatever he does after college. sports can carry a person throughout their life in more ways than just turning pro

Your son is 300th best in his hs class year. He'll develop at the sport as much as the average 300th-ish ranked recruit does, adjusted for his effort and dedication.

Using basketball as an example, few 300th ranked recruits probably ever make the NBA. In football, where careers are shorter and rosters are 10x bigger, probably half of 300th-ish HS recruits get a rookie NFL contract a few years later.

its big 3 sport in the US, but

1. no injuries like football

2. ages into work leagues and adult leagues, softball etc

3. arguably the most preftigious bragging in corporate work

presuming the 300th best player in the nation will not make all his adult money from sport, so you want to have fun, not get injured, create habits for lifelong athleticism and health, and cop dat prestige

Is this position specific (ie if I pick baseball is he the #300 second baseman)?

If no, then I’d choose football. Large teams with lots of positions would mean he would have a good chance of being a top 10 player in his position.

If yes, then I’d probably choose baseball or basketball. #300 is still good enough to play in college and potentially improve from there, but the sports are low impact and unlikely to leave him injured.

22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.[b] 23 Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare[c] the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27 Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?”

“If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”

29 Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?”

He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

30 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?”

He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

31 Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?”

He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”

32 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”

He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

33 When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

300th best in the country though might not guarantee a scholarship since 30% of NCAA men's soccer players are foreign born.

300th best in baseball and basketball likely get a full scholarship.

Before this year, baseball teams had a scholarship cap of 11.7 perv team, so most players did not get a full ride. They just raised it to 34.

Why are there so many foreign born soccer players at US colleges? In any event, there are probably enough soccer roster spots that be could comfortably get one at a d1 program, but it might not be a top school or team.
