Why does electronic music from the 90s sound stale and dated?

Like Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, DJ Tiesto or the Mortal Kombat soundtrack
Compared to modern EDM it sounds abrasive and unpleasant to my ears
Something about newer software or production techniques?

Fatboy Slim mostly used old samples from the 60s/70s/80s so the point was to sound kind of unpolished.
His music is more like the Beastie Boys or Beck than synth-based "EDM".
Also 90s scumbag culture.
