I know the main thing on everyone's mind is how Doodikoff would perform. In short: he wouldn't.

Let's make the unwarranted assumption that someone gifted Doodikoff a lvl 200 (overleveled) character with a meta build and killed Mohg and Radahn for him (which are required to enter the DLC). There is *some* possibility that Doodikoff might make it to the first boss, because he did get to Margit and the first dungeon is both shorter and easier than Stormveil castle.

But he would be filtered immediately upon entering the boss room. The first boss hits much harder than Margit and is faster too. It can hit even an over-leveled character for over half their health. It is on you with a charge attack as soon as you enter the room. In my educated opinion, most of doodikoff's attempts would end in under 10-15 seconds, with negligible damage dealt. At best, with sustained practice, he might get the boss down 25% and last up to a minute. In the unlikely event he got "in the zone" one every hundred attempts and got the boss down to 50% health, he would be greeted by a second phase in which the boss becomes faster, more damaging, more unpredictable, and gains powerful arena-filling AOE attacks. It is highly unlikely that Doodikoff would ever land more than 1-2 hits on the second form.

The difficulty only ramps up from there, culminating in an insane final boss fight that is the hardest ever in a Souls game. I have beaten every Souls game multiple times legit, without using cheap crutches, and this fight is so ridiculous that I had to do a min-max respec and pull every single piece of cheese out of my bag of tricks. Even using the fucking Mimic tear, he took an hour to beat. He makes Malenia look like a normal, non-boss enemy.

I can very confidently say that even if Doodikoff was highly incentivized to beat this boss (such as by being rewarded by having his first choice of past online dates that rejected him become infatuated and willing to marry him), and he was given all the resources needed to do so (including a generous stipend so he could retire and do nothing but practice Elden Ring, hire personal coaches to walk him through the fight, etc.), he would literally still never, ever be able to win and would die having been cucked by this boss over 3.5 million times (assuming 40 years of remaining life, 12 hours per day, 20 attempts per hour). He would NEVER, EVER win.

The only good farming spot in the whole expansion is in the last dungeon. LJL

In the base game you can use the sword you get from the last boss, the one that has a special that blasts a giant wave of light. There is a spot outside mohg's palace right in front of a save point that has a ton of decent XP enemies all close together. You just blast them with the light wave for XP, then reset them with the save point.

How can this game be basically the biggest success ever and yet it has so little impact on the “cultural conversation” around the State of Gaming? Somehow people pay a lot of attention to Ubisoft sucking, to the triumph of “indie games,” and no one really talks about Japanese AAA games other than, like, to actually discuss the games.

In retrospect I didn't really like it and it was extremely forgettable compared to other Fromsoft titles

I enjoyed it a bit at the time but now that the dust has settled I remember very little about it, think the story and worldbuilding were mediocre and not interesting or worthy of much note at all, and barely remember any of the encounters. Zero desire to replay it or get the DLC

BB otoh I more or less remember from start to finish and still await a sequel even if it's more or less perfect as a standalone game so I'm not biased against Fromsoft

But it's still far more competent than Western Titles. Don't compare it to Bloodborne, which is Playstation exclusive alongside intellectual titles like Death Stranding, MGS3, Xenogears, Xenosaga, and so forth. Nobody really looks at Horizon/Assassins Creed on one hand, and Elden Ring on the other. They don't juxtapose.

That would increase the health pool of the boss a lot and if he died it would not matter that the allies were still alive. It's possible that if he turtled up in the corner behind a greatshield and never attempted to damage the boss, some pros with meta builds might kill the boss before it kills him after several tries. But with spirit ashes or a NPC summon? No, never. His only chance would be to basically have someone else play the game for him.

Should I play this shit? ER just pisses me off and I liked DS3 and BB way more. Like Margit jumps around like a madman, Malenia was a cunt. I just like when ashes don’t exist and the difficulty is exquisitely Engineered. I thought it would be a more chill RPG experience which is how they sold it but it was a Lie, almost Todd Howard esque. I played demons souls before this and it was chill as fuck, not even hard iirc. And internet posters attack me like I’m doodikoff, or like I’m posting in a gun thread and hegemon showed up.

The expansion will piss you off more than the base game because the bosses are tuned around ashes and summoning. Many of them are hyper-aggressive with tiny punish windows and move around more than Margit with the expectation that you will be swapping aggro with another target to get an attack window. And they are balanced around the player cheesing them with the most broken builds and weapons and spamming L2 specials. Of the 10 main bosses, more than half of them would be extremely difficult to beat with a Dark Souls 3 playstyle (like say a sword and board character with some sort of elemental weapon enchant who downs bosses by dodging/blocking and using R1 attacks during the punish window and doesn't summon anything). Many would take hours of attempts to learn assuming decent player skill to begin with. The last boss would probably take a whole weekend to learn if the player fights honorably.

Have a pure dex melee build and a mimic tear +10. Am at about level 120 and struggled with the end bosses in the main game but did manage to beat everyone eventually.

Is this worth it for me or am I going to just get crushed?

I asked the same question above, number 3. It just pisses me off how this was supposed to be the easy/chill one when it wasn't. Bloodborne (non DLC) and Demon's Souls are chill but internet posters are idiots and will always overrated the difficulty of something the older that it is.

I would say that the mimic trivializes every boss in the expansion other than the last boss, except that if you were already struggling in the base game WITH the mimic, the expansion will be pretty difficult. You will want some utility from faith spells and a minimum of 40 vigor (and 50+ would be a lot better) so you will be short on stat points at level 120.

there is a late game fight that changes based on the outcomes of various quests. if you are dedicated to not using spirit ashes, the fight could be very difficult if you complete/don't complete quests in a certain way that stacks the deck against you

thought this DLC was basically incredible aside from how they handled Miquella from a narrative/gameplay perspective. huge, huge areas, lots of fleshing out the backstory in interesting ways, great visual design, the bosses were for the most part fun

it makes basically all western gaming look totally pathetic and feeble in contrast. it's actually hilarious how head and shoulders from software is over anyone else. the combination of GRRM and Miyazaki was incredible and Miyazaki was a genius in its implementation

Pretty chill although it's gay how the dumb way in which you switch spells really limits the fluidity of spellcasting. This is true for items too but that's less of a big deal because you're usually just sticking to the three flasks

OP here. I don't think I could ever play through Elden Ring again. It's way too long and bloated with too few dungeons that are actual quality, plus once you get past Limgrave, most of the rest of the world design actually sucks. Like Mountaintop of Giants is pure garbage and Caelid isn't much better. Then Liurnia and that yellow/orange area are sort of OK but not great. Stormveil Castle was peak design and it's all downhill from there.

I have 5070 Ti but I bought Elden Ring when it first released and all I had was the Series X. it's a console game anyway, capped at 60 FPS, no ultrawide rez, etc.

You can Mod the game if you don't care about the online aspects iirc

I dunno, I don't think my wife really understands the gravity of me being one of the first ones to beat all these soulslike games so that I can down all of the bosses pre-nerfs. Like I'm probably 90th percentile or better skillswise at soulslikes (in fact, there was one where I played through legit with no summoned help and killed the true ending superboss, and only 1.5% had the achievement for that when I popped it), but I don't think my wife places outsized value on this talent.

I'm still amazed by your cope about "rolling forward" being immersion breaking as if Mike Tyson wasn't frequently dodging hits by rushing past punches into the dead zone, etc. Just shameless unadulterated inexcusable cope

I beat the base Elden Ring and had some fun with the DLC but once I got to Messemer I got really fucked up. Spent about half an hour and saw he had a second phase and just said “nope” and figured I’d try again later but never went back to it.

I enjoy the bosses a lot more in DS3, Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls. Even Sekiro was more fun.

Yeah that Messemer is a huge faggot. I totally admit that I cheesed him and relied on crutches. I only spend like 15 min on him, like 3-4 attempts. I saw what he did and decided that trying to "learn" the encounter was bullshit and would have potentially taken hours that I didn't feel like sinking into it. But he was probably the worst other than the final boss, who is on a whole different level above him.

I think DS3 has a good, healthy difficulty. Bosses like the twin princes and witch king put up a legitimate fight, but it's not a massive endeavor requiring a huge time investment and near-perfect play to beat them as long as you're decently skilled. The challenges are calibrated to be taken head-on.

This is why I always disliked elden ring (and the expansion is worse than the main game). I feel like some of the bosses are BALANCED around using a summmon/companion or the OP crutch weapons, so you do those things and then the victory feels cheap. Whereas the other soulslikes are balanced around honorable 1v1 combat using a player weapon with reasonable properties, so summons and broken weapons are unnecessary. I don't like being forced into the less fulfilling playstyles.

If you want good boss fights (bland areas though), Berserker Khazan is the game. I had an absolute blast with that.

The thing that I don’t like about ER is it was marketed as being more chill than its predecessors. But it isn’t. It’s the opposite. Especially the expansions. And fucking malenia even.

And for some reason gamefaqs gatekeeps hard, they’re just like “it’s easy 😏” these are the same people who struggled for months to beat GTA Vice City missions. The game does weird things to people.

Nameless King and most of Bloodborne I just killed bosses nbd, like it didn’t seem like they were like “fuck you champ.”

I beat ER expansion before playing BB for the 1st time via PC emulation. Some of the BB bosses were absolutely ASS pounding me.

You are just Old (and bald (and jewish iirc)), IMO

Pontiff Sullyvan and Twin Princes were both tough fights for me in DS3. Maybe a few hours each? But I enjoyed them both. Felt fucking awesome when I finally won. Killed Witch King on first shot which makes zero sense because I’m mediocre at these games.

The witch king is heavily dependent on build. He could be harder if you're fighting him normally in armor or you can just roll around him in whatever cloth gear you have with some fire resist and he can't hit u with the extra i-frames.
