Am I correct or are there some impoverished section 8 type areas that burned. Figure $3m average for the houses?

In the Palisades and Malibu, $3M would be the absolute bare minimum. Average would be more like $10M since there were some super expensive ones on Malibu beach bringing up the average. In the other fires like Altadena, there were cheaper houses.

Most of this is of course the land value, the cost of rebuilding the house would be a lot less.

tbf most of that was land value, and land value doesn’t get destroyed by a fire. It doesn’t cost any more to build a 3,000 square foot house in Malibu than it does in Cleveland. Building materials are the same, labor is the same, maybe slightly higher due to local wage laws. So the economic loss isn’t as great as people are saying. The land is still there and the location of the land hasn’t changed and houses will be rebuilt on it.

Land changes a lot. Salt water from the firefighting efforts make the land worthless. Looks like shit with no vegetation. Will have to wear hazmat suits and remove all dirt down to a couple feet of depth across entire area to remove all the toxic shit that is now fully mixed into the ground from the burnt buildings, commercial sites, etc ... all of which will filter down into the water table for the next 50,000k years

Bullshit. You might have to spend $20k on soil remediation but that’s a drop in the bucket when you’re talking about prime real estate worth millions just due to its location.

if you have "affordable housing" anywhere around there you deserve to have it burned down too.
