I got a call from a customer in Katy whose living room lights were out, and they were worried about the cost since it’s a Sunday. Rolled up to their place around 10 a.m., nice single-story house, maybe 15 years old. They said the lights flickered a bit last night, then just quit.

I started at the breaker panel in the garage—standard 200-amp service, nothing fancy. Flipped the switch for that circuit, and it wouldn’t hold; kept tripping right away. Pulled the cover off and checked the breaker—20-amp single-pole, looked fine visually, but I swapped it out with a new one from my truck to rule it out. Still no dice, so I figured it’s in the wiring or a load somewhere.

Went inside, checked the outlets and switches tied to that circuit. Found an outlet behind their TV that was warm—pulled it out, and sure enough, the wiring was loose, and there was some arcing on the contacts. Probably been that way a while, stressing the circuit. I replaced the outlet with a new 15-amp receptacle, tightened everything up, and reconnected it. Then I tested the whole run—lights came back on, no flickering, breaker held steady.

Took about an hour total, including talking them through it so they felt good about the fix. Charged them $189—$75 for the call-out since it’s the weekend, plus parts and labor. They were happy to keep it under $200, and I told them to give me a shout if anything else pops up. Pretty straightforward job, just another day keeping the lights on around here.

But this guy, spills some coffee on himself, and gets $50 million dollars? Ridiculous.
