Yes, like any movie there is dramatization, but men like Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and Robert E. Lee had more honor in their little fingers than pretty much anyone living has today.

This was before the industrialized death of the first and second world wars and the invention of nukes which makes it seem like humans are a fundamentally flawed species poised to self-destruct. Which we may well be, but at least back in the Civil War era there were men like Chamberlain and Lee who at least *believed* man was honorable.
