I mean this as 100% not flame, and I am not a particularly conspiratorial thinker on this stuff (for example, I don't think that the early debate was done with the purpose, anywhere on the dems' side, of getting biden out of the race; it just had that effect).
Kamala's 2020 campaign has largely gotten laundered into "yeah it was pretty bad and is hampering her now," which is just not accurate: it was the single worst performance relative to a candidate's position/expectations coming into a race in the modern era; literally Jeb! did better.
Joe chose her as VP in 2020 *because* of this, not in spite of it, to put a poison pill in the one best option most apt to be employed to replace him in '24. Her race and gender served as a fig leaf for the decision, but make no mistake: she was emphatically NOT a dei candidate in the sense that the gop criticizes her for being one; biden wouldn't have been able to pick her if she weren't a WOC because I'm not sure who that would be, but it'd be someone horrible with no plausible reason for being on the ticket (maybe Anthony Weiner or Rod Blagojevich?). |
