It's not where I would start though. I would tell someone to imagine a perfectly translucent pane of glass. Totally perfect, totally unblemished, no imperfections whatsoever. Then suddenly a golf ball hits it and it cracks.

You already know the shape of the crack is going to be totally random, no matter how perfect the pane of glass was. It's never going to be symmetrical like a snowflake. Hit the same golf ball with equal force at a hundred billion identical, perfect panes of glass, and no two cracks will look the same.

The pane of glass is our universe before the big bang, and that crack is our laws of physics.
