the problem with that is you start your career as a gs-5 with no say in where you'll be assigned (this was for marshal srvc ~ mid/late 90's). also, some branches like marshals have really shit assignments like federal cts.

i actually was ok with the $ since i had no debt and lived cheap, but it was the uncertainty that you could be stuck as a glorified mall cop at some federal ct in alaska that got me to turn it down.

Defer any form of deployment while I'm in school.

Graduate, drop my packet for Warrant Officer and enroll into Army Aviation school.

Graduate, spend years doing cool shit like FLYING A FUCKING HELICOPTER.

Go get a civilian gig as a pilot.

Retire from military in 15 years.

no the actual cs/math classes required were identical, the difference was needing engineering school gen reqs to complete the degree

the Eschool reqs were easy but incredibly tedious and high workload - I spent almost half my time freshman year on physics/chem labs that were 1 credit each (I passed out of the actual lecture with AP but they didn't let you skip the labs for some retarded reason)

I think CS BAs might not have needed to do an undergrad thesis, but my thesis was just a dumbed down version of work I was already contributing to in a professor's research group

Sigh. I had two hot startups recruiting me out of grad school. One was named Google. The other was named Theranos. Guess which one I picked. I now have a WFH sinecure that pays six figures, so my life turned out okay. But my net worth would probably have another 0 at the end if I had chosen to work for Google.

I worked there in the very early days of the company and didn't stay there for very long. Sunny Balwani had no formal involvement with Theranos during the time I was there, and I never met him.

In fact, while I worked there, I once ran into Elizabeth at an old bookstore in Palo Alto. She was with some dude, and it looked like they were on a date. And I'm pretty sure the dude was not Sunny Balwani. It was 20 years ago, so my memory is a bit foggy, but I think I would have remembered if she was with some older Indian dude. I don't know if she and Balwani were on a break or if she was cheating on him or if he was some potential investor and she was willing to suck his cock to get him to open his wallet.

Honestly, if I could go back in time, rather than working for Google, I would have snapped a photo of the two of them on my camera phone. I bet I could have sold that photo to a tabloid for a fortune once she became a household name. Plus I just want to know who the dude was.

Yeah, I'm stretching the definition of "hot startup" a little bit, but not by much. At the risk of outing myself, I was one of the first employees at Theranos, so we're talking around 2003-2004. It was prior to the Google IPO. Google was founded in 1998, so it was about 5-6 years old at the time.

No. Tech bro. I'm pretty sure Theranos didn't have a legal department when I was working there. I'm not sure if they even had an attorney on retainer at that point.

the only thing you really couldve chosen during that era collegewise was computer shit. you couldve majored in other forms of engineering but all that would do is secure you a pretty good corporate career with no real upside. if you want to get creative dont go to college.

more than anything, i'd prob go to a school in a warm climate. Maybe like University of Arizona or somewhere in Florida.

As far as a career, i'd prob go into education and be a gym teacher and soccer coach. This really seems like the absolute GOAT career IMO.

If i wanted to be ambitious, I could then go for an administrator or athletic director position down the line.
