Every retired person I know doesn’t even live off of their retirement investments. They live off an amalgamation of income streams: social security, pension, an annuity or two, rental property, part time work.
Yelling at people to save all their money for retirement is a scam perpetuated by wealth advisors and financial planners so they can have a job.

If you don’t like your job then quit and go do something else. Saving up your money and investing is fine for building wealth, but it’s not required to leave your job or do something different with your life.
I think the idea that you can save and attain this magical number where you feel perfectly secure is flat out unlikely for most people. In this way, saving and investing for retirement isn’t likely to lead you to a secure early retirement.
Second, the people that I actually know, when they get old, tend to view money not so much as a source of opportunity but just as a resource that’s there and most don’t even spend down their retirement savings because they learn to live on their income. And if they do, they’re just buying dumb shit. “Oh let me fix up everything possible on my house, oh let me buy a new car, oh let me do this, that.”
It’s all so very stupid, just live the life you were put here to live. Don’t turn into an old feeble spendthrift filled with regret.
