You don't need to be doctors or BIGLAW attorneys. More people could make more, the gulf in aptitude between the 150k and 300k is nonexistent, it's about drive and willingness. I was making 300k when I was 30 because I wanted to and figured out how to make it happen and networked and pushed till I got it. I make substantially more now but I'm not more intelligent than most of the 150k management jobs, just figured out how to be smarter at what I do and how to deliver results and how to get to the level I am now via a career plan I sketched out for myself literally on the back of an envelope while having a beer on a hot Dubai summer night.

I am a bit fascinated by people and their career decisions. Understand why you'd not want the corporate politics or networking needed for the 300k roles but why waste your time at a dull 80k teacher job when you can just as easily be a midlevel manager making 150k. You're also not going to get anywhere sitting at a desk waiting to be discovered and that seems to be the major hindrance for most people who think they just need to wait patiently for their turn to be promoted. Gotta keep applying and be willing to move around.

You always see those Twitter chains about how easy it is to start a successful pool cleaning business, and when you look further its like you have to have a staff of 20 guys to clear $80,000.

As a lawyer at a corp in a mid tier city, I rarely see people making over $200,000 in wages when we do diligence.

Internally my total comp is a little over $300,000 - but i get the impression even like the people one level below the c-suite only make like $400,000.

Companies are just very averse to paying high wages to anyone. It's also disgusting how they will fight tooth and nail not to give some rank-and-file employeean extra $1,000 in serverence when they're laid off after 25 years.

Yet if they buy a company they won't bat an eye just giving the other person another $500,000 by adjusting an earn out. And obviously it's no issue giving the c-suite $5 mm in stock every year.
