also, the new buyer would pay the tax. unless there is no buyer for the property at all, the tax will get paid.
why do people act like property markets are so fungible and will adjust in real time? and even if they were, the revenue would not stay the same, it would still be whatever tax the property is assessed at. property taxes aren't reassessed when the property is transferred. |

people leave cities for a myriad of reasons. taxes and bad governance are one of them, sure. but taxes are egregiously high in san fran and properties continue to rise. people are leaving chicago because it's a quasi-rust belt town and full of dindus. exactly 0 people are leaving because their property tax rose X%.
you don't pay higher taxes the moment the market is set for you individual parcel. you pay when the property is reassessed. |
