It’s been years since I revisited this classic based on Alexandre Dumas’ work. This is where Mel Gibson set his eyes on Jim Caviezel, leading to him playing Jesus of Nazareth in The Passion of the Christ two years later. And how could he not cast him? The whole Château d’If sequence was worthy of recognition. It’s wild to think that Disney, being so prudish and conservative back then, took the risk of adapting such a brilliant story. But hey, despite its flaws, the movie still stands as a solid swashbuckler with guaranteed entertainment.
Grade : “B+”
