Applying to law schools. Duke is the first to get back to me and I am not accepted but am instead on the "priority reserve" list. Is this the waitlist? I have a 175/3.63, so I thought I was an autoadmit. Does this mean the rest of my applications are likely doomed as well???

They were probably upset with your course selection in college. Or, more likely, your personal statement didn't show enough of a passion for serving the public interest with your law degree. Did you talk about wanting to work for government/nonprofit, or to contribute a significant portion of your time in the private sector to pro bono causes ( hopefully doing cutting-edge/experimental litigation like climate change, novel asylum theories, etc.)?

Duke does a lot of this kind of waitlisting. If you follow up with a statement of interest or something similar they will likely accept you.

I hope so man, but LSN shows them accepting mad peoples up in the 175+/3.8+ range. Surely if they were YPing, this fucker wouldn't have gotten in: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/managamy/jd

the way i would look at it is, if you had a truly exceptional application they'd be willing to immediately accept you and throw money at you in an attempt to lure you to their school. but if you're application sucks or is mediocre they're going to YP you because they'll expect you to get in somewhere better solely on numbers and you won't be worth fighting for unless they need to boost their numbers late in the game.

their only 174 intending to matriculate had just gotten off the waitlist at Penn and told them to pound sand.
