Weird seeing people start to chart paths in life. Some doing very well (top grad schools, jobs, etc.) and some who've basically been doing retail or been funemployed for 1-3 years.
How is your life going? How are your friends, classmates, etc. doing?

the divergence is profound. was at a bachelor party for one of my friends from high school (marriages are also staring to come fast and furious). lots of college and UG friends there....half are consultants, biglawyers, in med school, etc, and half are working at trader joes, unemployed, live at home, etc. and these people basically started out the same.
its the haves and the have nots....and the divergence happening now will continue for our entire lives. personally I'm glad to be on the winning side, for now at least.

early '90 here so just graduated, from regional private semi-ttt. i am going into a big4, probably ~25% of my friends have decent jobs or grad schools lined up, the rest are (still) "interning," moving home indefinitely or working shitty sales jobs.
my brother is '88 and most of his friends are in similar situations. as it turns out, many ended up at very TTTT law schools

'86 here. expect to make close to six figures this year. everyone in my group of friends from college is in a good job (most better than me) or elite grad school.
my high school friends are pretty hit or miss - some have big4/f500 jobs, some are working at chipotle and will be screwed forever. there are some distinguishing/contributing personality traits in each group though...

I hate to chime in with the exact same shit everyone else ITT has been saying, but uh, yeah.
Everyone's either making near six figures, or unemployed in mom's basement.
I'm the one exception, I made 40k last year.

wtf is this shit
1/2 of the entire generation is under/unemployed
1/4 has a dead end job like "sales" or whatever, or random corporation
1/8 in grad school
1/8 in an "upward mobility" job
This BORT is too connected to consulting/finance b/c outside of that group, almost NO ONE at age 25-26, especially with the rate of millennials going to grad school, is making even close to 6 figures.
I think the summary for us will be great haves and have nots, but also majorly depressed lifetime earnings from heavy debtloads, boomers not leaving jerbs, and people starting careers at 30, instead of 22

most people from my class in my shitivy ('10) seem to be doing fine aside from a few who would have done random shit regardless of the economy (like one guy who just quit his job to climb rocks for six months)
its just that some of them, particularly biz/finance types, had to settle for something a few rungs below what they would've gotten pre-ITE. the cs majors i know are all making 90k+ with ridiculous benefits
i am certainly one of the laziest of my friends and even i will probably end up in a decent (employable non-debt form of) grad school

I am 24. Econ grad, class of 2010, from a BigStateU. Law school dropout. Live at home. Work graveyard shifts at a hotel for $9/hr. Hobbies include drinking my dad's beer, UK bass music, QQing with Chinese girls, and dicking around with programming tutorials.
Hopefully fucking off to China next year to attend a university there and then teach English. No long term plans.
As you can see, things are going swimmingly.

I rarely felt safe, hated the starving artists and freelancer crowd, disliked dealing with actresses and actors, and hated parking/traffic. Don't get me wrong, the night life was fun (silverlake, santa monica), but overall, not enough for me to stay.
Yeah, I mean, I'm hoping to be gainfully employed soon, but it's only going to interfere with my free time.

'86
Two years behind most of my peers born in the same year in career (due to getting ITE shitcanned after first job and taking another entry level job)
Other than that fine
My friends, for the most part are doing just fine but they're not representative of the population as a whole. Many (including me) were in a sticky situation '09 and '10 but most got back on their feet. I do know that - at least according to facebook, many people i went to HS with are kind of fucked in the ass.

'85/class of '08 here.
All of my friends are divisible into 2 groups: bros who went to good colleges and are now doing well (with the exception of a few Cal bros who barely graduated) or are townies who have not changed at all since high school. I'm kind of jealous of the latter because they just smoke weed and play music and generally seem to be much happier than anyone else. There's a lot to be said about being a slacker. But, actually, a lot of them are miserable because they still live at home and are perpetually broke, so who knows how much longer they can deal with their situation. A few have started to get their shit together cuz reality is sinking in.
My wife comes from a very ghetto desert town and good god her FB friends really shine a light on the dire situation of the modern economy.

10 HS friends who come to mind:
1. State school philosophy -> PhD Philosophy -> political type job that pays 60K in MFH + very involved in politics
2. State school EECS -> dropped out -> scrounging IT temp jobs while unemployed for 2+ years
3. HYPSM philosophy -> job at big tech company -> job at established start-up -> quit and trying to start own start-ups
4. HYPSM math -> Math tutor and trying to figure out what to do next
5. State school math -> started PhD in math -> went on leave and working in analytics job at established start-up
6. State school philosophy -> small-law paralegal -> T6 law school
7. HYPSM biology -> worked in public health jobs -> T20 medical school
8. HYPSM public policy -> MBB -> T14 law school
9. Ivy economics -> UBS IBD -> moved to South America to do something -> start-up management -> quit to work on own start-ups and his get-rich-quick blog
10. HYPSM EE -> R&D at start-up -> dropped out to travel the world for 3 years, including joining a commune in Tel Aviv and spending 4 months in East Africa -> figuring out what to do next.
So, including me, out of the 11 of us, at ages 25-27, exactly 2 are currently earning a salary. And the state school bros seems to have more drive to avoid funemployment. Only the guy who dropped out of college is really depressed about his current state, though.

HS friends
1) HYPSM computer science --> start-up job
2) Crappy state school biology --> low ranked med school
3) Good state school bio engineering --> low ranked med school
4) Good private bio engineering --> low ranked med school
5) Good state school EECS --> start-up
6) Crappy state school EECS --> engineer
7) Decent private school EECS --> engineer
8) Crappy state school chemistry major --> teacher
9) Crappy state school math major --> works in the service industry
10) Crappy state school biology --> low ranked med school
11) Crappy state school math major --> PhD in math
12) Crappy state school biology --> lab manager
You don't have to be that smart to get into medical school or become an engineer. Except for the friend working in the service industry, they are all doing what they said they wanted to do in high school.
